Engeried (also: Ängiried ) is the statistical district 6 and at the same time a smaller common quarter in the district II Länggasse-Felsenau . In addition to Engeried, the statistical district also includes Burgerheim , Viererfeld and Vordere Engehalde . In the east it is bounded by the Aare , in the north lies the Kleine Bremgartenwald . The western border is the Neubrückstrasse, in the south it extends to the bulwark and the Lorraine bridge . The smaller common area borders on Brückfeld , Hochfeld and Neufeld as well as Burgerheim and Viererfeld .
In the district are the Engeried Hospital, the Burgerspittel retirement and nursing home and the Hotel Innere Enge with its restaurants and various events, especially jazz concerts. The alternative cultural center "Reitschule" is also located in the district.
In 2019 there were 1,141 inhabitants in the statistical district, 942 of them Swiss and 199 foreigners. In the smaller common quarter, 818 inhabitants, of which 662 are Swiss and 156 are foreigners.
A new development is planned on the Viererfeld / Mittelfeld. It is said to have 3,000 residents and is one of the largest construction projects in Bern in the coming years. The urban development competition was completed in January 2019.
The common quarter is determined by an older residential development in the form of apartment buildings and a few row houses.
The urban bus lines 11 and 21 connect the quarter with the center.
