Tiefenau is a common quarter in District II (Länggasse-Felsenau). It is the northernmost quarter of Bern and is located in the Aare loop north of the "Enge" on the Engeh peninsula . It borders on Felsenau , Rossfeld and Aaregg .

In 2019 there were 138 residents in the quarter, 109 of them Swiss and 29 foreigners.

The name is traced back to an estate of the same name. The Bethanien children's home was located in Herrenstock from 1894 to 1930, and an institution for the deaf and dumb from 1824 to 1828. In 1903 the Tiefenau forester's house was built.

Most of the quarter is wooded, with the Rychenbachwald in the north and the Thomebodewald in the south. The Tiefenau Hospital is in the center . The Zehendermätteli is a popular restaurant in Bern, which is best reached by taking the Zehendermätteli – Bremgarten ferry . There are also remains of an Iron Age and Roman small town: a Celtic wall and the Roman bath in the Rychenbachwald.

To the north there is a connection in the direction of Worblaufen over the Tiefenaubrücke , ( Hauptstrasse 1 ) and next to it for the RBS railway , where the Bern-Tiefenau S-Bahn station is close to the district. The RBS bus line 34 connects the district with the center.
