Between My Head and the Sky is the eleventh solo studio album by Yoko Ono . At the same time, including the three avant-garde albums as well as Some Time in New York City , Double Fantasy , Milk and Honey and two interview albums with her husband John Lennon , two compilation albums and the Live album by the Plastic Ono Band, it is Yoko Ono's twenty-fourth album. It was released on September 21, 2009 in the US and on September 25, 2009 in the UK.

Yoko Ono / Plastic Ono Band were named as interpreters on the cover .

History of origin

In November 1973, Yoko Ono released Feeling the Space, her last album, with the name Plastic Ono Band as a backing band . This band name was to be re-established on their new album 36 years later. Except for Yoko Ono, none of the original band members or studio musicians of the 1970s were there when the new band was founded. However, the Plastic Ono Band appeared on February 16, 2010 in the line-up with Eric Clapton , Klaus Voormann and Jim Keltner at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City . The two musicians listed first already played with the live album Live Peace in Toronto in 1969 , while Jim Keltner was involved in several studio recordings of Yoko Ono and John Lennon as drummer in the 1970s.

The musical direction of the album is reminiscent of the first three albums by Yoko Ono: Yoko Ono / Plastic Ono Band , Fly and Approximately Infinite Universe , whereby the album Between My Head and the Sky includes both experimental and pop music, the instrumentation is like the ones two previous studio albums Blueprint for a Sunrise (2001) and Rising (1995) kept simple. Sean Lennon , the son of Yoko Ono, once again took a leading role in the creation of the album. The recording dates of the album are not documented.

The songs Hashire, Hashire , Unun. To and Higa Noboru were sung in Japanese. The CD is accompanied by a 36-page booklet that contains illustrations by Yoko Ono as well as the lyrics of the songs in English and in Japanese translation. The album was released on the Chimera Music label, which was founded by Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl. The album Between My Head and the Sky was also released as a double vinyl long-playing record. The next studio album recorded with the Plastic Ono Band was Take Me to the Land of Hell and was released in 2013.

Cover

The cover design was done by Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl. The cover photos are from Greg Kadel. The long-playing record has a completely independently designed cover. The CD has a cardboard cover that can be folded out and comes with a 36-page booklet with illustrations containing the lyrics and information about the album.
