Starpeace is Yoko Ono's eighth solo studio album . At the same time, including the three avant-garde albums as well as Some Time in New York City , Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey with her husband John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band's live album, it is the sixteenth album Yoko Ono. It was released on November 22, 1985 in the UK and on November 18, 1985 in the US.

History of origin

Starpeace was Yoko Ono's third album after the death of John Lennon. The title of the album Starpeace stands in contrast to the plans of the then President of the USA Ronald Reagan , who promoted a strategic defense initiative , the Strategic Defense Initiative , which was colloquially called Star Wars . So Yoko Ono took up the peace theme that she began with John Lennon in 1969.

According to the accompanying text of the Onobox , Yoko Ono writes that some people advised her against making this album because the time was not right for it. Ono was of the opinion that the time was just right, although there had been an anti-peace mood in the USA and Europe.

Due to the engagement of the producer Bill Laswell the album should sound musically more contemporary, so prominent studio musicians of the time were hired and Yoko Ono's vocals were often significantly enhanced by background singers. Overall, despite the issues raised, the album has a positive mood. The recordings were made in 1985, probably in the summer, a more precise dating has not been documented.

On February 27, 1986, Yoko Ono appeared on the German television program Mensch Meier and interpreted the songs Hell in Paradise and Give Peace a Chance with her accompanying band .

Since the album and the subsequent tour were commercially unsuccessful, Yoko Ono decided to withdraw from the music business and not to extend the record deal with Polydor . Her next new studio album, Rising , was only released in December 1995 (USA) / January 1996 (Europe). Only in 1990 a compilation CD- EP was released in Japan with the title Happy Birthday, John , on which three versions of a reinterpretation by Yoko Ono of the John Lennon song Love '90 are.
