Onobox is the first compilation album of Yoko Ono . At the same time, including the three avant-garde albums as well as Some Time in New York City , Double Fantasy , Milk and Honey and two interview albums with her husband John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band's live album, it is Yoko Ono's sixteenth album. It was released on January 28, 1992 in the United States.

History of origin

The Onobox is a retrospective of the musical work of Yoko Ono between the years 1969 ( Unfinished Music No. 2: Life with the Lions ) and 1985 ( Starpeace ). All songs, with the exception of the recordings for Some Time in New York City , Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey , appeared here for the first time on CD, and the box also contains the previously unreleased album A Story and ten other previously unreleased songs, two single A-pages , which had previously only appeared in Japan , the single A-side Walking on Thin Ice also appeared on CD for the first time on this album. The song Walking on Thin Ice was also preceded by the statement by John Lennon "that he thinks this would be her first number one hit".

All 105 songs on the CD box were remastered , and a total of 39 of the songs were remixed by Yoko Ono and Rob Stevens. The 1986 posthumously released John Lennon albums Live in New York City and Menlove Ave. and the 1998 John Lennon Anthology were also mixed by Rob Stevens. The collaboration continued up to the Yoko Ono album Yes, I'm a Witch Too from 2016. The revision of the recordings was carried out in the Quad Recording Studios in New York City , the songs were selected by Yoko Ono.

A 96-page illustrated booklet was enclosed with the box, containing extensive information on the recordings and a discography by Yoko Ono. It was not until five years later, in 1997, that Yoko Ono's individual CDs were released on Rykodisc Records , in which Rob Stevens also participated in part.

Cover

The artistic design was done by Roger Gorman. The cover design was done by Yoko Ono and Maureen Nappi / Associated Images. The cover photos are by Bob Gruen, Jack Mitchell, Peter Moore, Peter Moore, Raeanne Rubenstein, Allan Tannenbaum, Yosuhiro Yoshioka and Annette Yorke.
