History of origin

Since the release of the album Starpeace in November 1985, Yoko Ono withdrew from the music business and concentrated on other artistic activities. Only in 1990 a compilation CD-EP was released in Japan with the title Happy Birthday, John , on which three versions of the John Lennon song Love '90 , sung by Yoko Ono, are. In 1994 the musical New York Rock was produced, which includes Yoko-Ono songs and was musically produced by Rob Stevens in the Quad Recording Studio. The CD was released on May 2, 1995. On January 28, 1995, Yoko Ono recorded with Sean Lennon , Paul and Linda McCartney and their four children the song Hiroshima Sky Is Always Blue , which was broadcast on Japanese radio and has only been available on bootlegs so far .

In 1995, ten years after her last studio album, a more precise date was not documented, Yoko Ono decided to go back to the studio, this time with her son Sean Lennon and the musicians Timo Ellis and Sam Koppelman. The three musicians called themselves IMA and were musically active as a music group even before the recordings. They were named on the cover of the CD as equal to Yoko Ono. Ima is Japanese and means "now" in German. Yoko Ono signed a recording deal with Capitol Records / EMI , who had previously released the CD New York Rock .

In contrast to the last three albums that Yoko Ono recorded after the death of John Lennon, Rising was significantly less pop-oriented. The instrumentation was minimalistic and the musical direction is more reminiscent of the first three albums by Yoko Ono without the avant-garde titles. Some of the tracks are based on the grunge sound that was successful in the 1990s .

After the subsequent tour, Yoko Ono decided to withdraw from the music business again, her next new studio album Blueprint for a Sunrise was only released in November 2001.
