Location of Beul in Rhineland-Palatinate |
Beul is a district of both Busenhausen and Heupelzen in the Altenkirchen district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
Surname
The name Beul originally comes from Old High German. There buhil means something like bend of the earth equal to Bühel , Böjel or Beujel , in today's dialect Böijel .
geography
location
Beul is located six kilometers north of Altenkirchen on the watershed between Sieg and Wied on the L 267 below the 388 m high Beulskopf . The headwaters of the Heupelzerbach are located southeast of the village and drains into the Wied. Neighborhoods clockwise are Birkenbeul , Weißenbruchen, Pfaffenseifen, Hilgenroth , Obererbach , Bachenberg , Busenhausen, Kettenhausen , Heupelzen and Ölsen. The two districts are on the left and right of the thoroughfare, which is also the boundary between Heupelzen and Busenhausen.
geology
The subsoil consists mostly of basalt , which was created in the Tertiary by volcanism . The area around Beul is of particular cultural and historical importance due to ore mining , which was located here at the end of the 18th century. In addition, reference is made to old kiln systems that were probably in operation between the 9th and 11th centuries.
Forest
The forest around the Beulskopf today belongs to 16 forest owners from the community of Heupelzen . Because of considerable differences of opinion between the political communities and the forest owners, there were lawsuits and judgments in various instances between 1851 and 1877. The royal Spruch-Collegium for agricultural affairs in Coblenz decided in favor of the then 13 shareholders of Heupelzen.
history
A first resident of the place is mentioned as early as 1450 in the Mirakelbuch zu Hilgenroth with a Hof zum Beull . The Beugeelshöff appear in the reformed church book of Altenkirchen in 1606 , and three farms in Beul are already listed in 1744. All these farms were in the area of the Busenhausen district. The owner of the farm on the hinter Beul finally became in 1841 the large landowner Everhard Freiherr Geyr von Schweppenburg from Cologne , who had already bought the dilapidated monastery building of Marienthal Monastery in 1836 and bought further lands next to this farm, which he occupied with Catholic tenants. The land on the western side of the street was auctioned in 1842 after the death of the owner Heinrich Wilhelm Saßeroth. The buyers of the parcels built houses on both sides of the street and thus brought about the emergence of the place Beul as a community-based street village. In 1906 there were only two houses on the Heupelzer side. In the years 1949 to 1951, the Catholic population of Heupelzen and Beul built a chapel in the center of Beul, mainly in individual efforts, which was replaced in 1973 by a larger church with a parish hall. This branch church of St. Aloysius zu Beul belongs to the parish of Altenkirchen. The Raiffeisen observation tower, a wooden tower with a height of 35 m, has been in Beul since May 1990.
Landmark
of the region is the 35 m high wooden Raiffeisen tower on the Beulskopf, the highest point in the Altenkirchen community. It offers a distant view of the Rothaargebirge and the Hohe Acht in the Eifel 57 km away, and in good weather you can also discover Cologne Cathedral . The tower is an attraction on New Year's Eve .
Street name
In Beul, the streets usually end with a path , while in Busenhausen they often end with a street .
