history
Pope John XXIII founded with the Apostolic Constitution Cum venerabilis on November 25, 1961 the territorial prelature of São Luís de Montes Belos from territories of the dioceses of Goiás , Jataí and the Archdiocese of Goiânia, to which it was also subordinated as a suffragandiocese .
With the bull Qui ad Beatissimi Petri it was raised to a diocese on August 4, 1981.
