history

The Trübener village church appears for the first time in a document in 1213. Until December 31, 2009 Bornum was an independent municipality with the associated districts Garitz, Kleinleitzkau and Trüben. On January 1, 2010 the incorporation into Zerbst took place.

The village of Garitz was first mentioned in a document in 1259. A Johannes de Gardiz (from the family of Redern) is named as a witness in a document in which it is stated that Richard von Zerbst has exempted the city from the toll. In 1350 the place was called Gartz , a name of Slavic origin. From 1572 the place name Garitz and the existence of a manor with a sheep farm, brewery and distillery are documented. The von Redern gentlemen sold this property to a branch of the von Davier family who ruled Garitz until 1893. The Lahne family from Niegripp then acquired the manor and managed it for 52 years. After the expropriation and in the course of the land reform , after 1945 the property was divided between the former farm workers and those who were displaced from Silesia. Almost nothing of the estate is recognizable today in the townscape.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Trüben was incorporated.

coat of arms

Bornum coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved by the Dessau regional council on July 4, 1994 and registered in the Magdeburg State Archives under the coat of arms roll number 34/1994.

Blazon : "In silver a blue obliquely left wavy bar, accompanied above by a green linden leaf, below by a black mill wheel."

The community colors show green - silver (white).

The coat of arms is divided by a blue wavy bar running diagonally to the left, which symbolizes the watercourses (Nuthe) in the community. The mill wheel represents the former water mills that were present in all four districts of the municipality due to the watercourses. The green linden leaf expresses the green (linden avenues) in the towns of the municipality.

Attractions

  • The stone church in the center of the village is a listed building. It was first mentioned in the 14th century. Occupied with the 1st bell from this century and the 2nd bell from 1748. In the church there are two knight stones with 16 coats of arms on each side 8, for Carl Friedrich von Davier and Heinrich Ludwig von Davier. The enlargement, through an extension, the renovation and ceiling design with three oval paintings and the erection of a new altar also falls into this period. This altar is a baroque carving with columns and the painting of the crucifixion and the donor family of Heinrich Ludwig von Davier, as the inscription expresses. The wall paintings were whitewashed during the Nazi era and could not be saved after the renovation in 1976. The church was renovated in 1994 with funding and donations and restored to its old appearance.
  • The old village oven should also be mentioned in the same context . It is the age of the church and is still fully functional. It has also been redeveloped. The home and oven association uses it several times a year to bake bread and cakes. The annual highlights are Ascension Day, Pentecost (oven festival) and Thanksgiving festival.
  • The "old starch factory" was built around 1900 by the brother of the last manor owner. The former factory building has been lovingly renovated. Today it serves as a multifunctional village center with users such as the Fläming Nature Park Association and the Determined Churches Foundation . The culture house (today: restaurant and hotel am Weinberg ) was built in 1976 by the LPG in the typical GDR architectural style, which saw the function in the foreground. On the gable side there is an oversized glass ornament with a dove of peace, hammer, compass and wreath of ears.
