Bowling Green is a city in Hardee County in the US state of Florida with 2930 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Bowling Green is about 10 km north of Wauchula and about 80 km southwest of Tampa . Not far to the east, the Peace River flows past the city.
history
In 1886 the Florida Southern Railway built a railway line from Lakeland via Bowling Green to Punta Gorda , which was integrated into the Plant System in 1892 .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 2930 inhabitants were distributed over 973 households. The population density was 791.9 inh / km². 63.3% of the population identified themselves as whites , 10.5% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 22.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.3% to several ethnic groups. 58.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 28.7% of all households lived in 51.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 81.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.64 people and the average family size was 3.91 people.
38.1% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 27.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 18.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 15.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 28 years. 52.8% of the population were male and 47.2% were female.
The median annual income was $ 30,863, with 30.0% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 55.43% of the population and 44.57% spoke Spanish .

On November 21, 1978, the Payne's Creek Massacre-Fort Chokonikla Site was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .
