Brendan is a male given name of Irish origin. A variant of the name is Breandán . In etymological terms there is no feminine form. Occasionally, however, the name Brenda is adopted as a feminine form.

Brendan is derived from Brendanus , the Latinized form of the Irish name Bréanainn , which in turn was derived from a Welsh word meaning prince .
