Bruno Adam Hieronymus von Kern (born October 5, 1860 in Grottkau , † November 20, 1932 ) was a Prussian officer , most recently major general and landowner.

Life

Kern joined the Jäger Battalion No. 6 of the Prussian Army on February 16, 1880 and was transferred to the Jäger Battalion No. 1 on October 18, 1881, when he was promoted to Second Lieutenant . On January 14, 1886, he was transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 128 . As a prime lieutenant , Kern graduated from the War Academy from October 1890 to the end of July 1893 . This was followed by his commanding into the Great General Staff . Promoted to captain on March 22, 1895 , Kern was a company commander in Infantry Regiment No. 54 and from March 22, 1897 in Infantry Regiment No. 148 . On October 18, 1901, he was transferred to the Glogau War School as a teacher .

Kern later served as the commander of the III. Battalion in the infantry regiment “von der Goltz” (7th Pomeranian) No. 54 stationed in Köslin . On June 16, 1913, he was assigned to serve as a lieutenant colonel in the 4th Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 157 in Brieg and was finally transferred to the regiment's headquarters on October 1, 1913.

According to the mobilization plan, when the First World War broke out , his association formed the Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 51 on August 2, 1914 and Kern was appointed commander. In the 4th Landwehr Division under Lieutenant General Arthur von Brietzke , he took part in the fighting on the Eastern Front , especially in the Weichselland and at Baranavichy . During the costly Battle of Tarnawka, Kern was wounded on September 9, 1914, but was able to stay with the troops.

From January 3, 1917, Kern was Colonel in command of the 205th Infantry Brigade in the 103rd Infantry Division on the Western Front. Here he took part in the battles at Verdun , the Chemin des Dames , St. Quentin and the Oise , Somme , Avre , Montdidier and Noyon . After the previous division commander, Major General Friedrich Wilhelm von Auer , fell in an air raid on January 3, 1918, Kern was in charge of the large association for two days before Major General Hans Fedor Lepper took over command. Kern gave up the brigade command on May 1, 1918 and acted as commander of the 232nd Infantry Division from September 28 until the end of the war .

After returning his troops to his home country, he gave up command on December 2, 1918 and was put up for disposition after the demobilization . Kern, who was a legal knight of the Order of St. John , was a.o. for his services during the war. a. Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross and the Order of the Crown, 2nd class with swords.

Kern spent his retirement in Brieg in the administrative district of Wroclaw .

Kern was the owner of the "Deutsch-Leippe II" property in the Grottkau district in Upper Silesia , which was leased in plots. He got this estate from his mother, Valeria von Kern, née. from Kern, inherited. The property comprised 61 hectares , including 59 hectares of arable land and 2 hectares of other land.
