Bryan Jovan Bailey (born May 13, 1980 in Hempstead , New York ) is a retired American basketball player who has played basketball in Europe professionally since studying in his home country . He is married to Etelka Sike Bailey, has two sons and is also a Jamaican citizen . Bailey played as a professional mainly in the German basketball league (BBL), in which he also began his professional career in 2002, and also in the Netherlands , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Poland and Italy .

Career

During his studies at the private Bucknell University in Lewisburg (Pennsylvania) , Bailey was appointed as a basketball player in the university team Bison twice in 2001 and 2002 in the selection of the best players in the NCAA Division I Patriot League . In his senior year in 2002, he was honored as the university's best male athlete.

After his studies he played basketball professionally and signed a contract for the 2002/03 season in Würzburg with the X-Rays in the BBL. The season was sportingly disappointing for the X-Rays and ended on a relegation place, which the Würzburg only escaped by increasing the league in the next season. However, Bailey moved to the Dutch Eredivisie for one season at the club in Zwolle . In the 2004/05 season he returned to the BBL and played not far from the Netherlands for the Dragons in the joint municipality Artland . The promoted last season had just missed the play-offs for the German championship in his first season . Together with Bailey succeeded in each of the following two seasons in fifth place and thus clearly the play-off qualification, where they were then eliminated in the first round. Bailey extended his contract for another season in 2006, in which they only qualified eighth in the main round for the play-offs. There they made it to the final of the championship very surprisingly, after first defeating the main round first ALBA Berlin and then defending champion RheinEnergie Cologne , to whom they were still defeated in the cup final.

As a double vice-runner, Bailey left Artland in 2007 and moved to the Bosnian Sarajevo to the traditional KK Bosna, with whom he became Bosnian champion in 2008. In the ULEB Cup 2007/08 he was on December 4, 2007 on the side of KK Bosna, when they lost in a legendary game after five extra times with 127-141 at Alba Berlin. By winning in the second leg, however, KK Bosna qualified in contrast to Alba for the second round, where they were eliminated against the Spanish representative CB Gran Canaria . In the 2008/09 season Bailey played in the Polish part of Görlitz for PGE Turów from Zgorzelec in the PLK . He then returned to the German BBL for four weeks in November 2009 as a replacement for Jason Gardner and played in Oldenburg for the EWE Baskets in both the Bundesliga and the ULEB Euroleague 2009/10 . In the summer of 2010, he finally signed a one-year contract and returned to his former club Artland Dragons. Under coach Stefan Koch , the Dragons managed to return to the play-offs for the championship, where they were defeated by defending champion Brose Baskets in just under five games in the semi-final series . Subsequently, Bailey's contract was extended for another season. In the basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 they faced defending champions Brose Baskets again in the play-off semi-final series, who this time came out on top in three games. Also in the Beko BBL-Pokal league cup they failed each time at the Brose Baskets, whereby they finished third in the 2011 Beko BBL-Pokal .

After Bailey did not get a new contract in Artland in 2012, he switched to league competitor from Bayreuth in September 2012 , who was looking for a substitute player after injury concerns. Only after a successful "fundraising campaign" was his temporary contract with his teammate Beckham Wyrick extended to the end of November 2012 until the end of the season. The Bayreuthers only managed to stay up at the end of the basketball league in 2012/13 . Then Bailey was beginning in May 2013 by the Association Virtus from Rome for the play-offs in the Italian Lega Basket Serie A contracted. In the following 2013/14 season, Bailey played again for the club medi bayreuth (formerly BBC Bayreuth). After completing the 2014/2015 season, Bailey announced the end of his career and returned to the United States with his family.
