Niederhermsdorf is located in the north of the Freital city area. To the west borders Oberhermsdorf to, on the south Zauckerode . In the east is Wurgwitz. Parts of the now closed and dismantled narrow-gauge railway Freital-Potschappel-Nossen ran through the Niederhermsdorf area. The Edgar-Rudolph-Weg leads from Potschappel to Kesselsdorf on the former planum . The Niederhermsdorfer coal branch line also existed until 1972 . The Wiederitz flows in parts through the town. history

Niederhermsdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1350. In 1378 administrative affiliation was with Castrum Dresden, from 1590 with the Dresden office . From 1856 to 1875 Niederhermsdorf belonged to the Döhlen court office and later to the Dresden administration . In 1921 Kohlsdorf, Niederhermsdorf and Wurgwitz merged to form the new municipality of Wurgwitz. Although Niederhermsdorf had more inhabitants than Wurgwitz, this name was chosen because it could not be confused. When Wurgwitz was incorporated into Freital in 1974, Niederhermsdorf was not given the status of a district of the new city, but remained assigned to Wurgwitz and only exists as a district. In the 1990s, a residential area was built in the Niederhermsdorf area, which was completed in 2010.

The former Gasthof Niederhermsdorf was demolished in 2010.
