Deep Castle

The Tiefburg is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle on the "Castle Buck" southeast over Untertiefenbach , a modern suburb of Bad Windsheim in the administrative district Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim in Bavaria .

An Adeloch von Tiefen was mentioned in a document as early as 1103 and a Conradus von Tiefen in 1203. In 1356 the castle belonged to the brothers Dytrich and Eberhart von Hohenberg. In 1366 Gotz Schoder Dytrich von Hohenberg owned a share of the castle. In 1405 Johannes von Hohenlohe gave the castle to a Seyfrid Heuptlein. In 1422 the castle passed to Hanns von Rosenberg, who sold it to his brother in 1436. In 1438 Kunz von Rosenberg sold the castle to his brother-in-law Engelhard von Seinsheim. On July 25, 1449 the Windsheimers stormed the castle in the course of the First Margrave War , destroyed it with the village of Unterntief and took the castle crew prisoner. Afterwards Windsheim had to pay damages to Engelhard von Seinsheim and bought the place and the destroyed castle for 7,500 guilders, which was never rebuilt.

From the former extensive castle complex, possibly a double system with section ditch and a semi-circular moat that grave system must be more clearly seen.
