history
Untertief was founded probably during the second settlement wave of the Franconian conquest . The place was first mentioned by name in a document from the year 850. In 1103 the local knight Adelochen von Tiefen is mentioned. In 1226 Albrecht voniefe handed over his possessions in the village to the diocese of Würzburg . After a checkered history for the lords of the castle, Engelhard von Seinsheim became its last owner in 1438. In the city war he supported the Margraves of Brandenburg-Kulmbach against the imperial city of Windsheim . On July 25, 1449, they stormed the castle and the town and destroyed both. In the subsequent trial, the imperial city of Windsheim was sentenced to compensation for damages against Engelhard von Seinsheim. For 7,500 guilders, the imperial city bought the district, which has been under it ever since.
Towards the end of the 18th century there were 13 properties with 16 subject families (6 half-yards, 2 residential estates, 5 hackers' estates) in Untertief. The imperial city of Windsheim exercised the high court . If necessary, it had to be delivered to the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Vogtamt Lenkersheim . The imperial city of Windsheim held the village and community rulership as well as the lordship over all properties .. In 1802 there were only 12 subject families in the place who were subordinate to the imperial city of Windsheim.
As part of the community edict, Untertief was assigned to the Külsheim tax district formed in 1811 . It also belonged to the rural community Külsheim formed in 1817 . With the second community edict (1818) it was re-ceded to Oberntief . On January 1, 1972, Untertief was incorporated into Bad Windsheim as part of the regional reform .
