Bushnell is a city and also the county seat of Sumter County in the US state of Florida with 2418 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Bushnell is about 70 km west of Orlando .
history
In 1886, the Tropical Florida Railroad , a subsidiary of the Florida Railroad , opened a railway line from Ocala via Bushnell to Plant City . The railway line was extended to Tampa in 1890 . On October 28, 1885, the first post office was opened at what would later be the Bushnell site while the railway was being built. The City of Bushnell was officially founded in 1911.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 2418 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 1438 households. The population density was 396.4 inh / km². 81.4% of the population identified themselves as whites, 12.7% as African American , 0.9% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 2.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 8.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 46.5% of all households lived in 24.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 64.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.80.
20.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 34.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 50.5% of the population were male and 49.5% were female.
The median annual income was $ 34,097, with 20.9% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 96.01% of the population and 3.99% spoke Spanish .

The Dade Battlefield Historic Memorial and the Thomas R. Pierce House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Bushnell is crossed by US Highway 301 ( SR 35 ). The Florida State Road 48 connects the US 301 with the nearby Interstate 75 west of town. The nearest airport is Orlando International Airport (around 100 km east).
crime
The crime rate in 2010 was 264 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were three robberies, six assaults, 20 break-ins, 71 thefts and two car thefts.
