Byun Baek-hyun
Byun Baekhyun ( Korean :; 변 백현 Abbreviation :边伯贤; traditional characters :;邊伯賢Pinyin : Bian Boxian ; Japanese :ベクヒョン,辺伯賢* 6. May 1992 in Bucheon , South Korea ), better known as mononymous person Baekhyun , is a Korean singer and actor . He is a member of the Korean-Chinese boy group EXO , the subgroups EXO-K and EXO-CBX and the supergroup SuperM . He made his debut as a soloist in July 2019 with the release of his debut EP City Lights .
Life
Byun Baekhyun was born in Bucheon in Gyeonggi-do Province in South Korea. He has a brother named Byun Baekbeom seven years older. At the age of 11 he began training as a singer, which was largely influenced by the singer Rain . He attended Jungwon High School, where he was the front man of the band Honsusangtae and was allowed to perform at several local music festivals. He received piano lessons from Kim Hyun-woo, a member of the South Korean rock band DickPunks . In addition to his musical activities, Byun Baekhyun was a trained martial artist in his youth who had a black belt in Hapkido .
His singing talent was discovered by an agent from SM Entertainment . Meanwhile, he studied for the entrance exams at the Seoul Institute of the Arts . In 2011 he was accepted after a casting at SM Entertainment. Along with fellow EXO members Chanyeol and Suho , Byun Baekhyun attended Kyung Hee Cyber University (Korean: 경희 사이버 대학교) and took online courses for the Culture and Arts Department of Business Administration .
Career
2012–2015: debut and career start
Byun Baekhyun officially became the ninth member of the band EXO on January 30, 2012 . They made their debut on April 8, 2012.
In February 2014, Byun Baekhyun and Suho performed regularly as hosts on Inkigayo (Korean: 인기 가요), which is broadcast by the Seoul Broadcasting System . In July 2014 he made his musical theater debut in the lead role of Don Lockwood for the entertainment agency SM Culture & Contents (Korean: 에스엠 컬처 앤 콘텐츠) in the musical " You should be my lucky star ".
In April 2015, Byun Baekhyun released his first solo album entitled "Beautiful" as the soundtrack for the EXO web drama Exo Next Door . This song became the first soundtrack single to rise from web drama to the top digital charts. In May 2015 it was announced that Baekhyun would play the lead role in the action film Dokgo with actor Yeo Jin-goo . However, it was announced that film production would be canceled in January 2016. In December 2015, Baekhyun paid tribute to singer Kim Hyun-sik when he performed his song Like Rain Like Music on the broadcaster SBS during the year-end music program SBS Gayo Daejeon . The studio recording of his interpretation was later published digitally.
2016–2018: Acting role and EXO-CBX
In January 2016, Baekhyun and Bae Suzy released a duet called Dream . The song quickly topped the online real-time music charts and later debuted at number one on the Gaon Digital charts . Dream won first place in the Music Bank and Inkigayo music television programs a total of five times . In April 2016, Baekhyun received the YinYueTai V-Chart Award as South Korea's Most Popular Singer. In May 2016, Baekhyun and K.Will released a folk ballad called "The Day" as part of the SM Station project .
In August 2016, he made a small screen debut in the television drama series Moon Lovers - Scarlet Heart Ryeo ; a South Korean adaptation of the Chinese novel Bu Bu Jing Xin . He plays the leading role of Prince Wang Eun alongside Lee Joon-ki , Kang Ha-neul , IU and Seohyun . He also worked with EXO members Chen and Xiumin , with whom he created a soundtrack for the series called For You .
In October 2016, SM Entertainment announced that Baekhyun would form the EXO-CBX subgroup with Chen and Xiumin . The first song they released was For You at the Busan One Asia Festival. The extended play Hey Mama! was released on October 31, 2016. In November 2016, Baekhyun took part in the League of Legends tournament "2016 SM Super Celeb League" organized by SM Entertainment , where he met with Kim Hee-chul , who is also under contract with SM Entertainment, and with professional players and fans South Korea and China plays.
In February 2017, Baekhyun and Sistar member Soyou released the duet Rain . The song reached number one on all South Korean online music charts, an achievement that is known in English as all-kill and is therefore the first artist from SM Entertainment to score an all in 2016 and 2017 with Dream and Rain -kill scored. In April 2017, Baekhyun released the single Take You Home for the second season of the digital music project SM Station . The song reached number 12 on the Gaon Digital Charts. In August 2018, Baekhyun published the track Young for the digital music project SM Station in collaboration with the South Korean rapper Loco .
2019 – today: Solo debut and SuperM
On June 10, 2019, it was announced that Baekhyun would debut as a solo artist the following month, making him the third EXO member to perform as a solo singer. It was later announced that Baekhyun would debut with the mini-album City Lights .
On August 7, 2019, Baekhyun was confirmed as a member of SuperM, a "K-Pop supergroup" founded by SM Entertainment in collaboration with Capitol Records . The group’s promotions are slated to begin in October and target the American market. SuperM debuted on October 4, 2019 with the group's eponymous debut EP.
On December 4, 2019, Baekhyun was named Best Male Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards 2019 after the success of his debut EP City Lights (2019) and his lead single UN Village .
