Rain ( ['piː]; born June 25, 1982 in Seoul , South Korea as Jung Ji-hoon ) is a South Korean actor, R&B and K-pop singer and model.

Surname

Jung Ji-hoon's stage name means rain in all languages . In English he is called Rain . In Korea his name is Bi and in Chinese he is known as . Only the term Pi used in Japan is the transliteration of the Korean pronunciation.

Life

As a teenager, Rain was briefly in a band called the Fanclub from 1998 to 2000 . After the group broke up, Rain pursued the goal of becoming a dancer and attended auditions. Since he did not fit into the scheme, he was hardly paid any attention, but his dancing skills were praised. In 2000, Rain was cast by talent agency and record company JYP Entertainment . His mother died that same year. In the first few years Rain worked as a background dancer at JYP.

Jung Ji-hoon took the stage name Rain and released his first album Bad Guy in 2002 . The song of the same name became an instant hit in Asia. He then retired as a singer and began acting in dramas (including Sang Doo! Let's Go To School , 2003). After his success as a singer and actor Rain brought his second album How To Avoid The Sun ( Sunny 2 ) out with success of the single Way To Avoid The Sun .

In 2004 he stood in front of the camera for the television drama Full House , which received a constant audience rate of 30%. The series was a success in Asia. For his role in the series, he received the popularity award at the KBS Drama Awards .

In 2006 he made his debut as a film actor in Park Chan-wook's I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK , opposite Lim Su-jeong . The film was awarded the Alfred Bauer Prize at the 2007 Berlinale . In 2008 Rain stood in front of the camera for the first time in an American production by the Wachowski brothers . In the film Speed ​​Racer , Rain played the racing driver Taejo Togokahn , based on the anime Speed ​​Racer . At the end of 2008 he played the leading role in Ninja Assassin , another American production by director James McTeigue , with the Wachowskis as producers alongside Joel Silver . For the film, Rain had to rehearse and train martial arts elements. The film was filmed in Berlin .

He gave his first concert in Germany on May 19, 2011 as part of the Dresden Music Festival . In the same year, he began his military service on October 11, 2011 in the city of Uijeongbu . He was released on July 10, 2013. A year later he starred in The Prince - Only God Forgives (2014) alongside Bruce Willis and John Cusack in front of the camera. He also played the leading role alongside Liu Yifei in the Chinese film Lù Shuǐ Hóng Yán ( 露水 红颜 , 2014).

In 2015, Rain founded his own company, the RAIN Company.

On January 19, 2017, he married actress Kim Tae-hee in a Roman Catholic ceremony. He had been baptized a short time earlier. In October 2017, Rain became the father of a daughter. The couple's second daughter was born in September 2019.

In 2019, Rain starred in the biography of Korean cycling legend Uhm Bok-dong . He became a hero when he defeated the Japanese athletes in a race during the Japanese occupation of Korea .
