Karl Rolla du Rosey also Carl Rolas du Rosey u. Ä. (born June 30, 1784 in Neuruppin , † May 4, 1862 in Dresden ) was a Prussian major general and an important art collector .

Life

Origin and family

Karl comes from an originally Swiss aristocratic family from the canton of Vaud , who came to Brandenburg in the late 17th century at the latest and who later also acquired estates in East and West Prussia . His parents were the Prussian major in the infantry regiment "Prince Ferdinand" (No. 34) and later postmaster in Köslin Karl Friedrich Rolla du Rosey (1742–1807) and Dorothea Sophie nee. von Altrock (1760-1820).

He married Luise Karoline Julie born on November 27, 1815 in Markt Reutweinsdorf near Bamberg . von Mandelsloh (1787–1857), only daughter of Colonel Johann Heinrich von Mandelsloh. From this marriage three daughters were born.

Career

After attending school in Neuruppin, Karl became a page with King Friedrich Wilhelm II in 1795. He began his career in the Prussian army in 1799 as an ensign in the "von Hahnstein" infantry regiment (No. 51) . In 1803 he was promoted to second lieutenant . In the fourth coalition war he took part in the defense of Danzig . After moving into the first West Prussian Infantry Regiment (no. 6) in 1808, he received ibid. 1812 was promoted to first lieutenant . As a staff captain he was aggregated on foot in the 2nd Guards Regiment in 1813 . In the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Leipzig , Brienne , Arcis sur Aube and finally Paris . For his work at Bautzen he received the Iron Cross II. Class, for Paris the Order of Vladimir IV. Class. With his promotion to captain in 1815 he also became company commander , and in 1816 he was promoted to major in the 4th Infantry Regiment . His appointment as director of the division school of the 2nd division from 1821 was confirmed to him in 1825. Also in 1825 he received the service cross . Rolla du Rosey was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1832 and when he was promoted to colonel in 1835, he was also commander of the 3rd infantry regiment ad interim. He was confirmed as regimental commander in 1836. The Red Eagle Order IV. Class was awarded to him in 1837 and in March 1840 he was briefly commander of the 12th Landwehr Brigade, but was already aggregated to the 3rd Infantry Regiment in April of the same year. He was promoted to major general on September 10, 1840, and in 1841 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. On March 31, 1846 he became the commandant of Schweidnitz and on September 25 of the same year he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. He was last put up for disposal in 1848 with the statutory pension .

He owned a large art collection (paintings, engravings, drawings) and a large coin collection. It was auctioned off at four auctions by “ Rudolph Weigel's Art Auction” from 1863 to 1864 .
