Carsten Koch (born April 27, 1945 in Kongens Lyngby ) is a Danish economist and politician of the Social Democrats , who was, among other things, tax minister and health minister .

Life

After attending the Lyngby Statsskole, Koch completed his studies at the University of Copenhagen , which he graduated in 1971 as Candidatus politices (Cand.polit.). After receiving a scholarship at the Economics Institute of the University of Copenhagen, he initially became an adjunct there in 1975 , before he was later a lecturer at this institute from 1977 to 1982 .

In 1982 he switched to Arbejderbevægelsens Erhvervsråd (AE), an analysis and research institution and think tank of the labor movement and the trade unions ( Landsorganisation i Danmark ) as an economist . After becoming head of department in 1993, he took on the role of director of AE in 1994.

On November 1, 1994, Koch was appointed by Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen to succeed Ole Stavad as Minister of Taxation (Skatteminister) in his second government and also held this position in his third government until he was replaced by Ole Stavad on March 23, 1998.

He then took over the office of Minister of Health (Sundhedsminister) in the fourth Rasmussen government and held this ministerial office until he was replaced by Sonja Mikkelsen on February 23, 2000. In the elections of March 11, 1998, he was elected as a candidate of the Social Democrats as a member of the Folketing , and there he represented the constituency of Frederiksborg Amtskreds until his voluntary resignation on August 31, 2000 .

After leaving the Folketing, Koch was the administrative director of Danske Bank , Denmark's largest bank, from 2000 to 2007 . Having 2008-2009 chairman of the Tax Commission (Skattekommissionen) was, he was between 2009 and 2011 director of Lønmodtagernes Dyrtidsfond (LD), a pension fund with 749,000 members, assets of 53.4 billion crowns managed.

In addition, since 2010 he has been chairman of the Employment Council (Beskæftigelsesrådet) of the Labor Market Administration (Arbejdsmarkedsstyrelsen) , which is part of the Ministry of Labor, and since 2012 he has also been chairman of Forca , a pension service company that includes the pension and insurance companies Lærernes Pension , Pensionskassen for Fysioterapeuter (PKA), Pædagogernes Pensionskasse (PBU) and Andels-Pensionsforeningen (AP Pension) supported.
