Cerenzia is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) in the province of Crotone in Calabria with 1071 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The parish is about 48 kilometers northwest of Crotone .

history

On the mountain near Cerenzia was the ancient settlement Akerentia (also: Acheronthia, Acerenthia), which was named after the river Acheron . Its Italian counterpart is today's harvest . From 1099 to 1437 Cerenzia was the seat of the diocese of the same name. Today it is only a titular bishopric .
