Cotronei (in the local dialect: Cutrunii ) is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 5425 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Crotone in Calabria . The municipality is located about 31 kilometers northwest of Crotone and borders directly on the provinces of Cosenza and Catanzaro . Cotronei is located in the Parco nazionale della Sila and belongs to the Comunità montana Alto Crotonese .
Economy and Transport
Cotronei is dominated by agriculture through the cultivation of grain, olives and wine. In addition, cattle is also farmed. Strada Statale 179 del Lago Ampollino leads through the village . Near Lake Ampollino there is a small airfield ( Aviosuperficie Franca ) for general aviation and a go- kart track next to it .
