Wind farm

Isola di Capo Rizzuto is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 17,462 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Crotone in Calabria . The parish is located approximately 17 kilometers southwest of Crotone . It is made up of the districts of Le Castella , Campolongo , Capo Rizzuto , Le Cannella , Marinella, Sant'Andrea, Sant'Anna, and Stumio. The community is located on an isthmus in a seismically very active area. The titular diocese of Isola goes back to the bishopric here.

Viticulture

In the municipalities of Isola di Capo Rizzuto and in parts of the municipalities of Crotone and Cutro, there has been a "controlled designation of origin " (Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC ) with the name S. Anna di Isola Capo Rizzuto DOC , which was last published on March 7th 2014 was updated. However, no DOC wine was marketed in 2014. Rosé and red wines could be produced under this name .

Wind farm

The place attracted attention due to possible involvement in money laundering business . The Isola Capo Rizzuto wind farm was built by Vent1 Capo Rizzuto Srl in 2002 . One of the largest of its kind in Europe. Just the HSH Nordbank 225 million euros invested in the plant. The company was repeatedly suspected of doing money laundering for the 'Ndrangheta . As a result, the wind farm was confiscated by the Italian state for a short time, but this decision was reversed by the competent court in Catanzaro . The further investigations, also against the German investors, are still ongoing.

Strada Statale 106 , which is on the same route as Europastraße 90 , leads past the village . Crotone Airport is about three kilometers to the north . Several districts (Capo Rizzuto, Le Cannella, Le Castella and Marinella) are located directly on the Ionian Sea . In the area naturale marina protetta Capo Rizzuto off the coast, water sports are sometimes completely forbidden, sometimes only allowed under strict conditions. The area is protected by the Convention on the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea from Pollution ( Barcelona Convention 1976).
