Charles Jules Delporte (born March 11, 1893 in Ixelles , † 1960 in Brussels ) was a Belgian fencer ( sword and saber ). He was an Olympic and world champion.

Life

Charles Delporte took part in three Olympic Games . In 1920 in Antwerp he landed in the individual of the epee fencing competition on the shared tenth place. He also competed in the saber fencer team competition and just missed a medal with fourth place. At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924, Delporte fought in three competitions . In the epee singles he fought his way up to the final round, which he, as the only fencer in the final round, finished with eight wins and thus became Olympic champion . With the epee team he also reached the final round, in which the team defeated Italy and Portugal , but was defeated by France and won silver. In the team competition of saber fencers, he was eliminated with the team in the quarter-finals. In 1928 Delporte entered the epee competitions in Amsterdam again, both individually and with the team. In both competitions he reached the final round and finished sixth in the individual. With the team he remained without a win in the final round against Italy, France and Portugal and again just missed a medal in fourth place.

With the Belgian epee team he became world champion at the 1930 International Fencing Championships.
