Charlotte Flemming

Charlotte Flemming (born July 3, 1920 in Weimar ; † March 3, 1993 in Munich ) was a German costume designer .

Life

From 1937 she studied stage design, costume studies and fashion drawing at the Weimar Art Academy. From 1939 she worked at the municipal theaters in Bochum and from 1942 at various Viennese theaters.

For the DEFA film quartet for five , she outfitted the actors in a feature film for the first time. She then worked for the German-Austrian productions and became, alongside Gerdago in the fifties and alongside Irms Pauli in the sixties, the most important and busiest costume designer in German-language film. She designed the clothes for films that took place in various epochs and was also active in several international productions in the 1970s.

Charlotte Flemming also continued to work for the theater and television. Her costume designs for the film Cabaret earned her a nomination for a BAFTA Award . In 1976 she received the gold film tape for many years of outstanding work in German film. In 1990 she sold her collection of around 1,500 costume drawings to the Deutsche Kinemathek Foundation in Berlin. She was married to the cameraman Günther Anders .
