Chokmah ( Hebrew חכמהfor wisdom ) is published on 29 October 2001 the twelfth studio album by Nena . The songs on Chokmah were mostly written in collaboration with Florian Sitzmann from the sons of Mannheim .
History of origin
On the album, Nena worked with Kosho (guitar), Robbee Mariano (bass) and Ralf Gustke (drums) from the Söhne Mannheims . Producer Florian Sitzmann is also a member of this band. The album was created in the Sherwood Forest Recorders in Karlsdorf-Neuthard . The strings on the album were recorded by the Warsaw Radio Symphony Orchestra in S4 Studio in Warsaw.
Originally, Nena had planned to release an album of songs she wrote from 1999 to 2001. Florian Sitzmann convinced her, however, to compose another album with him, which Nena got involved with. The result was an album that was keen to experiment with numerous elements of the music of the Sons of Mannheim, rap , New Wave and, in part, mystical approaches to New Age music (which, except for the album title, remain subtle).
The album title comes from Hebrew and in Kabbalah is a form of energy from the tree of life . There Chokmah stands for change and reprogramming. The title was chosen after the first line of text of the song had been determined: "This shocks my system".

Song info
The idea for the line of text Today I mistook the moon for the sun , Nena came on an early morning trip from Hamburg to Berlin . It was so foggy that after a short nap in the back seat, she no longer knew whether it was day or night.
Let go of the lines is the theme song of the film Abrafaxe . The song was the beginning of the collaboration between Nena and Florian Sitzman. The song had to be completed within three days.
I listen to myself was a song that was composed two years ago, but it was never recorded. Other older songs are Can already be and of course Leuchtturm , which was set to music for this album and backed with rap interludes.
Club der Leisen comes from a live session with Nena's drummer Van Romaine, Robbee Mariano on bass and Kosho on guitar, and Florian Sitzmann on keyboard.
You're giving is about Nena's husband Philipp.
success
Carpe Diem , Latin for "use the day", was released as a single on October 15, 2001 and reached number 66 on the charts. The album itself placed 18 in Germany and 67 in Austria.
reception
While Alan Severa from Allmusic rates the album with 4 out of 5 stars and describes it as as innovative as Radiohead or Björk , the album is torn up by Michael Schuh from Laut.de :
"Listeners suddenly find her engulfed in soundscapes that bear close relation to those used by Björk or Radiohead (featured elements ranging from electronics to symphony orchestra), which also means that this album's mood is radically different from all her previous albums."
“Listeners suddenly find themselves surrounded by soundscapes that are reminiscent of Björk or Radiohead (with elements that range from electronics to the symphony orchestra). That means that the mood of this album is radically different from all of their previous albums. "
“And: why do I find it all so boring? And put on? It's produced very well. Is it because Edo Zanki is involved in the production and even sings along from time to time? Nena wants to sound modern, she may have succeeded in parts. Your never-ending spiritual drivel has a strangely instructive effect on me. And unlike amateur philosopher Thomas D . terrifying ungroovy. "
