Christie Murray (born May 3, 1990 in Bellshill ) is a Scottish football player . The midfielder has played for the English first division club Liverpool FC Women since 2018 . She has been playing internationally for the Scottish national football team since 2010.

Career

Murray began her career with the Baillieston Girls before receiving a soccer scholarship at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City , Tennessee when she was 16 . In 2007 she played first for FC Queen's Park in Glasgow and then for local rivals Celtic Glasgow, for whom she scored two goals for her first title win in the 2010 League Cup final. In January 2011 she got a contract with other local rivals Glasgow City FC . She won championships with the club in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and took part in the 2011/12 , 2012/13 and 2013/14 UEFA Women's Champions League . In 2011/12 the team had to qualify and prevailed at a tournament in Serbia with three wins and 17-0 goals against the Serbian, Faroese and Maltese champions. Murray was used in two games and scored three goals. In the sixteenth finals, the Icelandic champions Valur Reykjavík were eliminated 1: 1 and 3: 0, and they were used in both games. In the second round, 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam was stronger and the Scottish women lost 0:10 and 0: 7. In 2012/13 the journey through Europe began with the qualification in Finland, where the Finnish, Croatian and Moldovan champions were eliminated. This time it was already over in the sixteenth-finals, where one goal too few was scored against Fortuna Hjørring . Murray was used in three of the five games, but only came in 106 minutes. In 2013/14 the qualification at a tournament in the Netherlands took place without them. It was only in the sixteenth and eighth finals that she played and impressed the coach of Arsenal WFC , against whom the Scottish women were eliminated in the second round, so that she was offered a contract for the 2014 season. She was only used in three league and cup games at the beginning of the season, won the cup with Arsenal, but left Arsenal at the end of the season. She moved to Bristol Academy within the league. In Bristol, she was used in all 14 league games and the club's last two games in the quarter-finals of the 2014/15 UEFA Women's Champions League , but they were lost 5-0 and 7-0 to 1. FFC Frankfurt . With the club relegated at the end of the season, Murray left Bristol and returned to Celtic. She was part of the team that played the first game at Celtic Park and scored the last goal in the 5-1 win over Rangers. After only a year she moved south again, this time to the new league Doncaster Belles . Here she was used in eleven games, but had to be relegated to the second division at the end of the 2016 season. She then stayed with the Belles in the short transition season called "Spring Series" and reached second place in WSL 2, which was not enough for promotion. In the 2017/18 season, which has now been adapted to the game plan of most European countries, she left the Belles during the winter break. She initially returned to Glasgow City FC , but left shortly afterwards and moved to Liverpool FC Women .

National team

Murray scored two goals in a game for the Scottish U-17 team against Northern Ireland in May 2007, which impressed the scouts of Carson-Newman College and earned her a scholarship. In September she won with the U-19 team against Denmark twice within three days and scored one goal. At the end of the month she took part with the U-19 team in the first qualifying round for the U-17 European Women's Football Championship in 2008 . She scored two goals at the tournament in Ukraine. The Scottish women and the hosts qualified for the second qualifying round. In April 2008 she was used in the three games at the tournament in Switzerland, where she scored one goal. The Scottish women qualified for the finals with two wins and one draw. This took place in France in July 2008 . She scored a goal in her first game against Sweden. The Scottish women lost this and the other two group games and had the worst goal difference with 2:12. They beat their own negative record of 2:11 from 2005, but were then replaced by Belarus in the following year, who had a goal difference of 1:16 at the home European championships. In September 2008 she made a new attempt with the U-19s in the first qualifying round for the 2009 U-19 European Women's Football Championship . At the tournament in Slovenia , however, it was only used in the 2: 5 against England. The Scottish women were eliminated after another defeat and a draw. There were five more missions with the U-19 in spring 2009, in which she was also the captain of the team.

On March 1, 2010, she came to the Cyprus Cup 2010 in the third group game against New Zealand for her first appearance in the senior team . Murray came on in the 83rd minute for Pauline Hamill . For Hamill, she came on for her second international game four months later against Poland , this time in the 78th minute. A month later, she made her first competitive appearance in the 4-1 win against Greece in the penultimate game of qualifying for the 2011 World Cup . This time she was substituted on for Julie Fleeting in the second half . In her fourth international match against Wales in February 2011 , she was then in the starting line-up for the first time, but was replaced after 65 minutes. At the Cyprus Cup 2011 she was a substitute in all four games. Substitutions remained in the next few games, mostly in the final minutes. On April 5, 2012, she scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win against Ireland 26 minutes after being substituted on, making her first international goal. However, this initially did not change their status. It was not until December 15, 2013 that she started again at the four-nation tournament in Brazil against the hosts , but was substituted after 65 minutes when the score was 0: 3 (final score 1: 3). She was also in the starting line-up in the third group game against Chile , making it 2-1 in the 40th minute, but was replaced in the 68th minute at 2-2 (final score 3: 4). In the game for third place, which was lost 1-0 to Canada , she was then allowed to play for 90 minutes for the first time.

In qualifying for the 2015 World Cup , she made five appearances and 78 minutes of action

In qualifying for the 2017 European Championship , she only had a short eight-minute assignment. The Scottish women qualified for the first time for the finals , for which they were nominated but not used.

In qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , it was used in three games. The Scottish women were able to qualify for a World Cup finals for the first time.
