Christoph Schösswendter (born July 16, 1988 in Zell am See ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

society

Schösswendter began his career in the youth of SG Saalfelden (later renamed FC Pinzgau Saalfelden). From there in 2008 he moved to SV Grödig in the Regionalliga West . With the Salzburgers, who achieved the championship title and promotion to the first division in the same year , he had a difficult time as a young defender with no significant experience and was only used in the club's youth team.

After a series that was unsatisfactory for the player, he then moved to 1. FC Vöcklabruck in the Regionalliga Mitte during the winter transition period of the 2007/08 season . There he came in his first half on eight missions with one goal. At the end of the season, Vöcklabruck was also champion in the Regionalliga Mitte and also rose to the first division. Thus Schösswendter was under contract with two championship teams in one season.

As a result, he fought under coach Andrzej Lesiak a regular place in the second division squad. Vöcklabruck started the season brilliantly and was in second place in the table after 5 laps. The rest of the season, however, was marked by the difficult battle for relegation. When you had to hibernate in the last place in the table, Lesiak was replaced by Dejan Stanković , who also relied on the young player in central defense. However, the change of coach did not bring a turning point and Vöcklabruck rose from the league as bottom of the table at the end of the season. Schösswendter was one of the few winners in the Vöcklabruck team. After strong performances at the beginning of the season, he had aroused the interest of SK Rapid Wien , who had already signed him for three years in January 2009.

At Rapid, Schösswendter was considered a perspective player. In his first season he was regularly in the professional squad in the UEFA Europa League and Bundesliga, but was only used with the amateurs.

At the end of June 2010 he was then loaned to the second division club FC Lustenau 07 for a year .

A year later he moved within the league to the promotion candidate SCR Altach . Rapid let him move free of charge. On January 17, 2013 it was announced that he was moving to the Austrian Bundesliga club FC Admira Wacker Mödling .

For the 2016/17 season he returned to SK Rapid Wien, where he received a contract valid until June 2019.

In July 2017 he moved to Germany for the second division club 1. FC Union Berlin , with whom he received a contract valid until June 2019. After only two league appearances in one and a half years for Berlin, his contract was terminated in January 2019 and he returned to FC Admira Wacker Mödling, who provided him with a contract until June 2021.

National team

At national team level, he has only been used on October 12, 2008 in a friendly between the Austrian U-20 national team and Germany. He was substituted on for Atdhe Nuhiu in the 84th minute of the game , the team won 2-1.
