Christophe Didier Berra (born January 31, 1985 in Edinburgh , Scotland ) is a Scottish football player. In addition to the British, he also has French citizenship. He has been under contract with the Scottish first division club Heart of Midlothian since 2017 .
Career
Berra signed a professional contract with Heart of Midlothian in 2003 . After convincing performances in the youth team, he made his debut in the 2003/04 season and has been part of the team since the 2004/05 season. In July 2006 he extended his contract for another five years and was captain of his team during this time. Despite his long-term contract, the then second division club Wolverhampton Wanderers was interested in a commitment and offered a transfer for a transfer fee of 1.5 million pounds. The offer was rejected, but after the increased offer in January 2008 - an amount of around two million pounds was presumed in the domestic press - initially met with little approval, the parties finally came to an agreement, with the final amount according to press information £ 2.5 million. Berra signed a 4½ year contract with his new club, which was not renewed in June 2013.
On July 20, 2013 Berra moved to Ipswich Town and signed a two-year contract.
National team
In 2008 George Burley nominated him for the game against the Czech Republic , in which he was substituted on and thus made his debut for the Scottish national team .
Style of play
Berra is a classic central defender . He has a pronounced physique and a good header game, which is also favored by his height of 1.91 meters.
