Michael Smith (born September 4, 1988 in Ballyclare , Northern Ireland ) is a Northern Irish football player . In addition to being British, he is also a citizen of Canada .

Career

society

Michael Smith was born in Ballyclare, about 20 km north of Belfast , in March 1988 . He began his career in his hometown with the Ballyclare Comrades . In 2009 he joined Ballymena United from the NIFL Premiership . Here he gained his first experience as a professional. In January 2011 he moved to England for the Bristol Rovers . In April 2013, the contract was extended for two more years after he had played 39 competitive games for the club by that time. A year later Smith moved early when Peterborough United paid a transfer fee for him. In June 2017, the defender moved to Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership after three years .

National team

Michael Smith was appointed to the Northern Irish national team's squad for the upcoming international matches against Slovenia and Wales in March 2016 by national coach Michael O'Neill . He made his debut in the friendly against Slovenia on March 28, 2016 in Belfast , when he was in the starting XI. In the 71st minute he was replaced by Conor McLaughlin .
