Steven John Naismith (born September 14, 1986 in Irvine ) is a Scottish football player. He's a classic striker .

Career

Naismith's first professional club was FC Kilmarnock , where he joined the pros from the club's U-19 division in 2003. In the 2003/2004 season he made his league debut at Kilmarnock when he was substituted on in the game against FC Hibernian . In February 2005, he scored his first league goal in a 2-2 draw against Heart of Midlothian . In the same year, Naismith was voted Scotland's Young Player of the Season by Scottish football journalists . He had scored 13 goals in the season. In 2007 he finally moved to Scottish top club Glasgow Rangers for a transfer fee of around £ 1,900,000. Naismith was injured in the Scottish Cup semi-finals against FC St. Johnstone and was out the rest of the season, including the UEFA Cup final , which was lost 2-0 to Zenit St. Petersburg .

In 2012 Naismith finally moved to the Premier League for Everton FC. He has been playing for Norwich City since January 2016 . In his first Premier League game for Norwich, Naismith also scored his first goal: In the 4-5 home defeat against Liverpool FC , he ensured the interim 2-1 lead. During the 2017/18 winter break, he moved to Heart of Midlothian in his native Scotland on loan until the end of the season . The loan was later extended for a season. In August 2019 he finally switched to Hearts.

National team

Naismith is the Scottish U-21 national team captain. He ran a total of six times and scored two goals. The Scotsman made his senior national team debut on June 6, 2007 with a substitution in the 83rd minute in his team's 2-0 win in the European Championship qualifying against the Faroe Islands . His second international match was two years after his debut against the Netherlands .
