The multidisciplinary artist duo became internationally known with the film project "C-Files: Tell Saga" with HR Giger , which Harald Szeemann invited to the Biennale di Venezia in 2001 , and the top ten hit "Side by Side" with Dieter Meier ( Yello ) in 2002 as well as the memorial project Mocmoc, which resulted in a referendum in 2004. Since 2011 Com & Com has been traveling the world with a tree trunk based on the Appenzellian Bloch custom. Bloch is currently stopping at the Shanghai Biennale . Com & Com has had solo exhibitions at the Kunsthaus Zürich (2000) and the Kunst-Werke Berlin (2003), has taken part in group exhibitions at the ZKM Karlsruhe , Kunstmuseum Bern , Migros Museum Zürich and 8 biennials (including Venice, Shanghai, Singapore, Sharjah, Moscow). In 2010, the CentrePasquArt in Biel held its first retrospective.

plant

At the beginning, the Com & Com label was still for commercial communication , but the direction of the artist duo has changed and developed further in recent years. The Com & Com plant can be roughly divided into four phases:

  • Phase I: In his early work (1997–2002), topics such as home and myth, advertising, pop and the star system were parodied and ironically deconstructed using multimedia. The techniques used were quotation, appropriation , sampling and ready-made ; the means among other things are parody, fake or manipulation (e.g. “C-Files: Tell Saga” [2000], “Side By Side” [2002], “Tell Star” [2002]).
  • Phase II: In the following creative period (2003–2007) Com & Com developed complex communication projects which, by means of targeted participation, provocation and attention strategies beyond the art context, incorporated the entire society as a dialogue partner and carried out topics such as the expanded concept of art, the creation of legends and the construction of identity Had art as their content. (Ex .: “Mocmoc” [2003-2008], “Gugusdada” [2004-2007]). During this time Com & Com started teaching and lecturing.
  • Phase III: In a transitional phase (2005–2008) Com & Com is increasingly discovering the singular and original work of art after media, concept and collaboration art . In terms of content, these works revolve around topics such as love, beauty, longing, life and the search for meaning. (Example: “The Big One” [2005–2007], “Google Earth Art” [2008]).
  • Phase IV: In 2009 Com & Com broke completely with irony and provocation . The program starts with the post-ironic manifesto ( post-irony ). In it Com & Com calls for the rediscovery of beauty in everyday life and simplicity, to pay homage to the authentic and to celebrate the creativity and uniqueness of each individual. Central aspects of post-ironic works and actions are curiosity, sustainability, social responsibility and meaningfulness. This reorientation is reflected in singular works such as “Baum” [2010] and “Ender” [2010], discussion and educational projects such as “Postirony” [2009–11], a series of new performances and the like. a. with Bazon Brock (e.g. “Com & Merz” [2010], “Level” [2010]) or collaboration and participation projects such as the current “Bloch” [2011–15], a multidisciplinary global exchange project that combines contemporary art with folk culture.
