Gotland (1973-1989)

The ship was built in 1973 by the Jozo Lozovina Mosor shipyard in Trogir for the Stena Line , but was never used by them. Instead, the ship was delivered to Rederi AB Gotland on November 26, 1973 . The ship started sailing as Gotland under the flag of Sweden with its home port Visby . From December 1973 to January 1974 the ship was rebuilt in Oskarshamn . From March 1974 to May 24, 1974, the ship was chartered by the TT line and used between Trelleborg and Travemünde . From June 4, 1974 to September 1974, the ship was chartered by Polish Ocean Lines and used between Helsinki , Nynäshamn and Danzig . From September 1974 the ship was used on various connections from mainland Sweden to Gotland. From January 9, 1988 to January 30, 1988, the ship was chartered from Molslinjen and used between Sjaellands Odde and Ebeltoft . From January 31, 1988 to February 10, 1988, Grenaa - Hundested Linien A / S chartered the ship and operated it between Grenaa and Hundested . In March 1988 Britanny Ferries chartered the ship and it operated the Portsmouth - Caen route until September 11, 1988 . On September 12, 1988, the ship was launched in Le Havre , but was chartered by Dieppe Ferries in the same month and began operating between Newhaven and Dieppe . Irish then chartered Continental Lines / Belfast Ferries and used it on the routes Liverpool - Belfast and Rosslare - Cherbourg / Le Havre. In 1989, Marine Group, Arendal , wanted to use the ship in traffic between Norway and Denmark , but this did not materialize.

Corsica Victoria (since 1989)

In January 1989 Tourship bought SA. Panama ( Corsica Ferries ) the ship for £ 81,500,500. On February 3, 1989, the ship in Le Havre was renamed Corsica Victoria . In the same year, the ship began operating between Livorno and Bastia .

In 1990 the ship was received by Industrie Navali Meccaniche Affini SpA. in La Spezia , Italy, another deck was installed on behalf of Corsica Ferries & Sardinia Ferries to increase their cabin capacity. The striking extension of the main deck was also added later. From January 2, 1998, the ship served the route Savona - Bastia - Calvi - L'Île-Rousse. In 2000 the ship was incorporated into the Italian shipping register, the home port became Genoa .

In February 2003, Siemens Mobile chartered the ship for a GSM exhibition in Nice , France . From April to October 2008 the ship operated between Civitavecchia and Olbia .

Furnishing

This ferry still has the old system of a bow visor , which is folded up with the help of hydraulic cylinders.

For a few years now, the Corsica Victoria and all other Corsica shuttles have also been equipped with reinforced rubber dinghies (lifeboats for rescuing passengers who have gone overboard). They all also carry normal, partly covered, lifeboats and life rafts .

Sister ship

The Corsica Victoria has a sister ship, the Visby built Sardinia Regina . It runs between Corsica ( Bastia , seasonally also Calvi , L'Île-Rousse ) and Italy ( Savona ). You can recognize them by their elegant structure and the ancient bow.
