Craig Callahan (* 26. May 1981 in Maquoketa , the US state of Iowa ) is an American basketball player who after his studies for various clubs in Europe has played basketball, including two seasons in the German basketball league in the polar bear from Bremerhaven . After three years in the Italian second division, Callahan has been playing for the first division and traditional club from Varese since the 2014/15 season.

college

Callahan studied at the UNC in Wilmington and played there successfully for the college team of the Seahawks in the NCAA Division I. In his freshman year, the Seahawks qualified for the first time for the finals of the NCAA championships. This should succeed the Seahawks up to 2001 also in the following Callahan's seasons. In his last year as a senior he played with the freshmen John Goldsberry and Beckham Wyrick , who would later switch to the German BBL. After graduating, Callahan played briefly with Brett Blizzard , who later played in the Italian Serie A , for the Wilmington Wave Rockers in the Carolina Basketball League .

Europe

In 2003 Callahan finally moved to the Czech Republic . After a season in Nový Jičín , where he was runner-up with the local club, he moved to Prostějov and reached the finals in the Czech cup competition in the first season. In 2006 he moved to Spain and rose in 2007 with the club from Manresa in Catalonia from the second division LEB Oro to the first division ACB . At the end of the 2008 first division season, his teammate in Manresa was Toby Bailey , also known from the BBL , who had moved to Spain from the insolvent Cologne 99ers . Apparently not deterred by Bailey's experience, Callahan finally moved to Germany himself for the 2008/09 season and played his first season in Bremerhaven. This season was a big disappointment, because the former play-off participant found himself in the table basement from the beginning of the season and was knocked off bottom of the table at the end. Relegation could only be achieved by acquiring a license that had become available. However, Callahan played in Belgium in the following season and only returned to Bremerhaven one season later. This time the polar bears reached the play-offs in the 2010/11 season , where they were eliminated in the first round against the defending champion and later German champion Brose Baskets from Bamberg . The following season Callahan moved to Brindisi in the second Italian division. With this club he won the League Cup of LegADue and achieved a promotion place in the first division by winning the play-offs. For the following season, however, he remained in the second division and moved to the Sicilian club from Barcellona . The following season he played for the successor club of Scaligera Basket in Verona in what is now called DNA Gold , the second highest Italian division. For the 2014/15 season Callahan landed a contract with first division club and tradition of Varese in the Lega Basket Serie A .
