Cristian Ignacio Garín Medone (born May 30, 1996 in Santiago ) is a Chilean tennis player .

Career

Cristian Garín mainly plays on the ATP Challenger Tour and the ITF Future Tour . So far he has been able to celebrate three tournaments in a single and one tournament in a double competition on the ITF Future Tour. In 2013 he won the junior tournament of the French Open against Alexander Zverev . In the doubles competition he also reached the final at the side of Nicolás Jarry , but they lost against Kyle Edmund and Frederico Ferreira Silva in straight sets. In April 2014 he won his first Challenger tournament alongside Nicolás Jarry in Santiago de Chile .

In the play-off match against Italy , he made his debut for the Chilean Davis Cup team in September 2012 , but lost his game against Simone Bolelli in straight sets. In February 2013 he took part in an ATP World Tour tournament for the first time. In Viña del Mar he received a wild card from the tournament management and reached the second round, where he finally failed to Jérémy Chardy .

In 2019 he reached his first three finals on the ATP Tour. Garín lost the first in São Paulo to Guido Pella in straight sets. Shortly afterwards, he won his first title on the ATP Tour at the tournament in Houston in April. In the final, he beat Casper Ruud 7: 6, 4: 6, 6: 3. The tournament victory in Munich followed a month later . In February 2020 he won his first title at an ATP Tour 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro when he defeated Gianluca Mager in the final . Through this success he reached a new career high with 18th place.
