Cuno from Rantzau
Cuno von Rantzau , also Kuno von Rantzau , completely Cuno Wilhelm Hermann Karl Gustav von Rantzau (born September 6, 1864 in Celle ; † December 17, 1956 in Vrestorf, now part of Bardowick ) was a German officer and court official.
Life
Cuno von Rantzau came from the non-countial branch of the Schleswig-Holstein Equites Originarii family Rantzau and was the eldest son of the Higher Appeal Court Councilor at the Higher Appeal Court of Celle Adolph August Carl von Rantzau (1820–1870) and his wife Ida Adelaide, née. von Anderten (1827–1878).
He attended the Ernestinum Celle high school , the Kadettenhaus Schloss Plön and the Prussian main cadet institute in Berlin-Lichterfelde . After several posts as an officer, he became a captain wing adjutant to Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . When he came of age and took office in full in 1901, von Rantzau switched to court service as head of the previous regent, Duke Johann Albrecht . On April 9, 1901, Friedrich Franz appointed him chamberlain . In 1905 he became court marshal for the court of Duke Johann Albrecht. He took him to Braunschweig when he was regent of the Duchy of Braunschweig from 1907 to 1913 . During this time, Cuno von Rantzau was also entrusted with the business of the Brunswick chief steward of the regent Elisabeth von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach (1854–1908) .
Since 1901 he was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology .
In 1913 he returned to Mecklenburg with Johann Albrecht and became court marshal at Wiligrad Castle . On January 1, 1914, the Grand Duke appointed him successor to Dimitri von Vietinghoff as Oberhofmarschall and thus head of the Court State and Marshal Office in Schwerin.
As a result of the November Revolution of 1918, the abdication of the Grand Duke and the end of the court, von Rantzau became head of the estate management of the grand ducal house, which had its seat in the previous grand ducal marshal's office at Großer Moor 53 in Schwerin. In this capacity, he acted as authorized negotiator of the previous grand ducal house in 1919, negotiating the contract between the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the former sovereign regarding the dispute over property law .
Eche and offspring
He was married to Erica, b. von Müller (born October 30, 1878 in Vrestorf; † April 13, 1958 ibid), the daughter of the landowner Victor von Müller auf Vrestorf and his wife Irmgard, b. von Harling and granddaughter of Karl von Müller . The couple had three sons:
- Johann Albrecht von Rantzau (1900–1993), historian and university professor
- Josias von Rantzau (1903–1950), diplomat, died in Soviet captivity
- Cuno von Rantzau (1910–1982), government councilor, married the shipowner Liselotte von Rantzau-Essberger in 1942 .
