When he came of age and took office in full in 1901, von Rantzau switched to court service as head of the previous regent, Duke Johann Albrecht . On April 9, 1901, Friedrich Franz appointed him chamberlain . In 1905 he became court marshal for the court of Duke Johann Albrecht. As a result of the November Revolution of 1918, the abdication of the Grand Duke and the end of the court, von Rantzau became head of the estate management of the grand ducal house, which had its seat in the previous grand ducal marshal's office at Großer Moor 53 in Schwerin.
