Life

origin

He came from the aristocratic Krockow family and was the son of Philipp Reinhold von Krockow and his wife Anna Marie, née von Borcke . His father was an imperial captain in the "Prince of Württemberg" dragoon regiment and master of Polzin. The later Prussian Lieutenant General Anton von Krockow (1714–1778) was his older brother.

Military career

Krockow was first taught by private tutors and in 1735 came to the Gröning College in Stargard in Pomerania . But he liked the school less than the military service, so that he already joined the Prussian Army in 1736 , where he was employed as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Borcke" .

In the First Silesian War Krockow took part in the battle of Mollwitz and the sieges of Brieg and Neisse . In the meantime promoted to secondary lieutenant, he fought in the Second Silesian War near Hohenfriedberg in 1744/45 and was seriously wounded in the battle of Kesselsdorf . In the following years Krockow was promoted to captain and company commander until August 28, 1756 . As such, he was used during the Seven Years' War in the battles near Prague , Kolin and Zorndorf . For his achievements in the battle of Torgau Krockow was promoted to lieutenant colonel and King Friedrich II awarded him the order Pour le Mérite .

In May 1764 Krockow became a colonel . On June 17, 1767 the king appointed him chief of the infantry regiment "von Zieten" . In addition, Krockow was promoted to major general shortly thereafter . He gave his regiment in January 1773 to Carl Magnus von Schwerin and received the infantry regiment "von Laxdehnen" in Marienburg. In the king's army, Krockow took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . In May 1781 he was made lieutenant general and on July 7, 1782 knight of the Order of the Black Eagle . In 1786 Krockow celebrated his 50th anniversary of service and was raised to the Prussian count status together with his brothers and cousins . For health reasons he asked for his departure in October. King Friedrich Wilhelm II complied with his request and on February 6, 1789, Krockow graduated as General of the Infantry with an annual pension of 2000 thalers.

Krockow died unmarried.
