The foundation of the DBU Digital Business University of Applied Sciences was initiated in 2017 by Achim Hecker and Holger Bingmann . The application for state recognition was submitted to the Senate Chancellery for Science and Research of the State of Berlin in July 2018. The procedure was successfully completed in November 2019.

The semi-virtual didactic concept of the DBU Digital Business University of Applied Sciences combines a virtual study via an online learning platform with time-focused face-to-face events on the DBU campus in Berlin or as part of excursions to so-called pop-up campuses. In addition to traditional student groups, the university is therefore also geared towards working people and enables part-time studies.

The main campus of the university is located at Oranienstrasse 185 in Berlin-Kreuzberg . It combines office and seminar rooms with an open co-working and event space.
