In the GDR Hockey Championship 1974/75 were in the league scheduled six instead of the previous eight games between the two clubs from Dynamo Weißwasser and Berlin. After the capitals held the lead throughout the tournament, Weißwasser managed to defend the title with a convincing home win on the final day.

Due to the sometimes large performance gap between the successor teams of the former upper division clubs from Berlin, Crimmitschau, Erfurt and Rostock and the other BSG teams, the determination of the best was divided into two performance groups of 4 participants each. The group allocation resulted from the placements of the previous season, after which the A-group last and the B-group winner had to contest a relegation. Another relegation was introduced between the last B group and the winner of the elimination of the district champions, as the number of new registrations has now far exceeded the available starting places.

The BSG unit Crimmitschau has secured as last year again the title.
