Dance Academy - dance your dream! (Original title: Dance Academy ) is an Australian youth - television series , which from 2010 to 2013 by Werner Film Productions in collaboration with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the ZDF was produced. The series revolves around Tara Webster, a new student at the National Academy of Dance .

season 1

Tara Webster grew up on a farm in Australia. At 15, she was accepted into the prestigious National Academy of Dance , where her life changed. With her classmates Katrina Karamakov (Kat), Ethan Karamakov, Samuel Lieberman (Sammy), Abigail Armstrong and Christian Reed, she is not only learning ballet, but also hip-hop dance and modern dance. But the friends also have to realize that life as a professional dancer is harder than expected, as they always have to fight for their dream with commitment, discipline and ambition.

season 2

In the season, Tara returns for her sophomore year at the National Academy of Dance . The friends all hope to take part in one of the most important international ballet competitions, the Prix de Fonteyn. Later in the season they have to deal with the death of their friend Sammy, who was killed in a traffic accident.

season 3

Tara and her friends are in their third and final year of the Academy. They are all concerned with the question of what happens to them after their training. Because they all dream of a permanent job with the National Ballet Company .

In the end, Ollie and Abigail make it to the company. Instead, Christian, who was actually offered a contract, starts teaching at the Academy. Kat (who also gained experience in film over the course of the season) stopped dancing and devoted herself to acting. Grace also stops and travels to Vietnam, among other places . Ben keeps dancing in Texas . Tara, who was seriously injured again, learns to dance again. However, a great misfortune happens during her final exam. She slips on a pearl that Grace has lost and breaks her spine. At the end of the season, she slowly begins to resume dancing.

The auditions began in Brisbane , Melbourne and Sydney in spring 2009 . Filming for the first season started on July 13, 2009 and lasted until mid-November.

The series was extended for a second season. Production for the second season began on January 31st and lasted until August 4th, 2011.

In August 2012, the production of a third, 13-episode season began in Sydney, the first broadcast of which was initially scheduled for autumn 2013. In fact, it began broadcasting in Australia in July 2013.

In 2016 a separate film was produced, which belongs to the actual series and is considered a continuation of the third season. The feature film was released on April 6, 2017 in Australian cinemas.

In Australia, the first season started on May 31, 2010 on ABC1 and on ABC3 on June 6, 2010. There the first season was broadcast until July 5, 2010 and the second from March 12, 2012 to April 24, 2012. The third season first aired between July 8, 2013 and September 30, 2013.

Germany

In Germany, the first two episodes were broadcast on September 26, 2010 on ZDF. In KiKA , the first season started on September 27, 2010 and then ran Monday to Thursday at 8:15 pm in double episodes. The remaining episodes were also shown in double episodes on ZDF from October 3, 2010 on Sundays at 7.45 am. The second season was shown between August 29 and September 19, 2012 at KiKA. The third season was broadcast on KiKA from September 17, 2013 to September 26, 2013.

German series title

Although the German version of the series is in all accompanying media (official website, program information) with the title Dance Academy - Dance your dream! is called, only the Australian original title Dance Academy appears in the German-language opening credits of the episodes .
