Darren W. Mcdew (* 29. September 1960 ) is a General of the United States Air Force (USAF) and since August 2015 Commander of the US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), a part contending powerful cross-functional command of the armed forces of the United States based on the Scott Air Force Base , Illinois . Previously , from May 5, 2014 , he commanded the Air Mobility Command (AMC) there, a main command of the USAF subordinate to USTRANSCOM .

Education and career

McDew joined the Air Force in 1982 after graduating from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington , Virginia , where he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering .

During his career McDew maintained over 3000 hours under the other on the patterns C-141B , KC-135 A / R , C-17A and C-130E / H and the utility helicopter UH-1N .

In July 2006, McDew was transferred to Scott Air Force Base as deputy commander of the 18th Air Force , and was promoted to brigadier general in that position two months later . From September 2007 he was appointed Director of Public Affairs on the staff of the Secretary of the Air Force at the Pentagon , Washington, DC , from December 2008 onwards with the rank of major general .

After further positions in Washington as Vice Director for Strategic Plans and Policy in the United Joint Chiefs of Staff and as Commander of the Air Force District of Washington at Andrews Air Force Base , in early August 2012 a promotion to Lieutenant General took place again at Scott AFB, this time as Commander of the 18th Air Force .

On March 11, US President Barack Obama nominated McDew to succeed Paul J. Selva , who in turn assumed command of USTRANSCOM, as commander of the AMC; the transfer of command finally took place on May 5; McDew's promotion to general came as part of the transfer of command.

McDew has been in command of USTRANSCOM since August 2015; he in turn succeeded Paul Selva, who took up the post of Vice Chairman of the United General Staff at the end of July .
