geography
course
Upper course
The Dautphe rises in the north of the Gladenbacher Bergland , in the north-east of the so-called Bottenhorn plateaus , which form its center of gravity.
The two source streams, of which the western one is the nominal one, arise south of Holzhausen on the northwest flank of the 552 m high Daubhaus in the so-called Herrwald . Both flow in a north-easterly to northerly direction and unite south of Holzhausen and west of the 504 m high Hünstein, which gives this place its name .
In Holzhausen, the Dautphe takes two more streams close to the source from the left, the first of which comes from the southwest flank of the 520 m high Hilsberg and the second from the north-northwest adjoining, a good 540 m high Schlossberg . Both streams unite immediately before their confluence with the Weinbach . Further tributaries flow in from both sides.
Middle course along the B 453
At Amelose , where the route of the B 453 , which will henceforth accompany the river , flows from the right, the Kaltenbach from the direction of Herzhausen, which was fed immediately on the left by the Kellerbach . These rivers come, like all other right-hand tributaries below Holzhausen, from the so-called Damshausen Kuppen , which connect to the Dautphetal to the east.
In Mornshausen , the Dautphe takes on the Bolzebach flowing in from the left , the source of which lies on the saddle between the striking 520 m high Bolzeberg and the iron heads up to 498 m high to the north . North of these mountains the land flattens and the plateaus merge into the Breidenbacher Grund , in which the second river flowing into Mornshausen, the Fortbach coming from Silberg (source stream " Schwindelbach ") and Hommertshausen , has its sources.
Lower course
A little further north, the course of the Dautphe turns from north to northeast. The Lautzebach, which comes from the foothills of the Schwarzenberg , flows from the left, after immediately framing the Dautphe community center to the southwest.
Once in peace village of the northern slope of the 465 m high from the right Eichelhardt coming Belzerbach is gemündet that Dautphe flows north of the place from the right in the Lahn.
Catchment area
The 41.84 km² catchment area of the Dautphe lies in the Gladenbacher Bergland and is drained via the Lahn and the Rhine to the North Sea.
It borders
- in the northeast to that of the two small Lahn tributaries Wolsbach and Stegebach
- in the east to that of the Ohe , a tributary of the Allna
- in the southeast to that of the Allna tributaries Irrbach and Lanzenbach
- in the south to that of the Allna tributary Langenbach and that of the Allna itself, which flows into the Lahn, as well as that of the Lichthardt trench , a tributary of the Römershäuser Bach , which drains over the salt flats into the Lahn
- in the southwest to that of the Hausebach , a tributary of the Perf
- in the west of the Perf itself, which flows into the Lahn
- and in the north to that of the Lahn tributary Martinsbach .

With a catchment area of around 42 km², the Dautphe has a discharge (MQ) of over 530 l / s and thus carries almost as much water as the Allna (665 l / s), which is adjacent to the source but drains to the southeast has a catchment area more than twice as large (92 km²).
In still closer to the Dautphequelle than those of the Allna of lies Perf -Nebenflusses home stream .
