Holzhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1251, when Heinrich von Damshausen agreed to a donation to the Teutonic Order in Marburg after the death of his brother . In 1368 the Lords of Hohenfels reconciled with the city of Wetzlar because of the attacks on the city of Holzhausen and on the Streichenberg. The Marburg citizen Wigand Mühlbach proved to the Caldern monastery in 1443 that his ancestors had given it a Gülte from the Mühlbachgut in Holzhausen, which had meanwhile been sold, and gave it to the monastery again. In 1455 bequeathed Gernand of Dausenbach the Teutonic Order gradient from his farm in Holzhausen. In 1463 the Marburg judge Ludwig Imhof and his wife Luise, born von Hohenfels, sold land to the hospital in Biedenkopf . In 1577 the Teutonic Order held five, that of Hatzfeld , the Lords of Dernbach , the Counts of Solms and the Haina Monastery each one estate in Holzhausen.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Holzhausen in 1830:
"Holzhausen {L. District Gladenbach) evangel. Parish village; is located on the Dautphe, in a rough area and 1 3 ⁄ 4 St. from Gladenbach. The place has 92 houses 564 inhabitants, who are Protestant besides 1 Catholics, as well as 1 church and 1 grinding mill. You can find a copper smelter and a copper mine, but they are not in operation. "
