Herzhausen is a district of the municipality of Dautphetal in the central Hessian district of Marburg-Biedenkopf .
geography
location
Herzhausen is located in the Upper Lahn Valley natural area in the Lahn-Dill-Bergland region in Central Hesse , approx. 20 km west of Marburg and 10 km east of Biedenkopf in the municipality of Dautphetal , directly on the B 453 . Herzhausen is suitable for local recreation because of the landscape and the surrounding forest.
District
Herzhausen has been a protected landscape area since 1954 . The size of the district Herzhausen is 709.19 hectares. Herzhausen is limited by the Streichenberg in the east, the Kellerbachtal in the north and the Hünstein in the southwest. Herzhausen is surrounded by the districts of Diedenshausen , Sinkershausen , Bellnhausen , Runzhausen, the city of Gladenbach and the Dautphetal districts of Holzhausen am Hünstein , Mornshausen an der Dautphe , Friedensdorf and Damshausen .
The following area proportions result for Herzhausen:
- Forest: approx. 380 ha
- Arable land: approx. 166 ha
- Meadows: approx. 124 ha
- Wasteland, pasture: approx. 10 ha
- Paths, water: approx. 28 ha
- Cemetery: approx. 2 ha
- Location: approx. 13 ha
Waters
The Kaltenbach rises in the east of Herzhausen, in the Winkshausen district, and the Kellerbach in the north of the village. Both streams are tributaries of the Dautphe .
mountains
Clockwise, starting in the north, Herzhausen is framed by the following mountains:
- Höckerberg 341 m
- Schweinskopf 473 m (Friedensdorf district)
- Streichenberg 456 m
- Kaltenberg 449 m
- Dusenberg 457 m
- Hünstein 504 m (Holzhausen district)
Except for the Hünstein ( Bottenhorn plateaus ), all mountains belong to the Damshausen peaks .
climate
The mostly forested mountainous area in the area offers wind protection on almost all sides. When the sun is low, it causes a slight restriction of solar radiation after the residential area. The shape of the landscape enables the formation of an easterly wind system, through which fresh forest air is carried to the residential area by mountain and slope winds in the evenings and at night.
Since Herzhausen is away from major roads and there is no industry, pure air prevails. An eastern mountain wind system also enables sufficient air exchange even in general weather conditions with no wind. At this altitude, long, stressful heat waves rarely occur in summer. The outflow of cold air should be a little more difficult, but hardly lead to prolonged cold air stagnation. As a result, the tendency towards fog is also relatively low.
history
Herzhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1333 under the name Hertzhusin .
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Herzhausen in 1830:
"Herzhausen (L. Bez. Gladenbach) evangel. Branch village; is 1 3 ⁄ 4 St. from Gladenbach, has 41 houses and 257 Protestant residents. There is an iron mine in the area, but it is no longer in operation. "
1 July 1974 at Herzhausen under which was municipal reform in Hesse with 11 other municipalities powerful state law to the new greater community Dautphetal together . Local districts were set up for all formerly independent municipalities .

Legends and stories
The legend of the Ellerchen cellar brook has grown up around the Kellerbach, which flows between the two mountains of Hoheroth and Höckerberg. It is said to have been an old gray woman who wreaked havoc. Once even the shepherd von Herzhausen is said to have chased his dogs on the old woman, when she showed her power and scattered the herd to the wind. The shepherd had to strive for a long time to get his sheep back together. It is also said that she would fetch small children at night when they were walking through the forest.
