David Leon Toups

David Leon Toups (born March 26, 1971 in Seattle ) is an American Roman Catholic clergyman and Bishop of Beaumont .

Life

David Leon Toups grew up in south Louisiana and later in Florida , where he in Clearwater the high school attended. Before entering the seminary , he studied at Florida Southern College in Lakeland from 1988 to 1990 . He completed his philosophical and theological studies first at the seminary in Miami and then from 1993 to 1997 at the Pontifical North America College in Rome, where he obtained a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University . The New York Auxiliary Bishop Edwin Frederick O'Brien donated him to the deacon ordination on October 3, 1996 in St. Peter's Basilica . On June 14, 1997, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Saint Petersburg through Bishop Robert Nugent Lynch .

Until 2001 he was initially active in the parish pastoral care in Spring Hill and was a member of the priestly council of the diocese and the national association of priestly councils. He then studied from 2002 to 2004 at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome, where he was awarded a Dr. theol. received his doctorate . From 2004 to 2006 he was Professor of Sacraments Theology and Liturgical Studies at the Saint Vincent de Paul Regional Seminar in Boynton Beach . From 2007 to 2010 he served as the vice director of the Secretariat of the United States Bishops' Conference on Clergy , Consecrated Life and Vocations. After two years as a pastor in Tampa he was since 2012 rain of the Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Beaumont on June 6, 2020. The Archbishop of Galveston-Houston , Cardinal Daniel DiNardo , ordained him episcopal on August 21 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Dallas , Edward James Burns , and his predecessor Curtis John Guillory SVD .
