David Serero (born 1981 in Paris ) is a French opera singer ( baritone ), actor and producer.

Live and act

Musical career

David Serero studied jazz piano at the American School of Modern Music and the Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris and completed both training as a pianist and arranger. From 2001 to 2003 he received singing lessons from teachers at Broadway and the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, as well as acting lessons at HB Studio , where he played his first theater roles. He then studied singing at the St. Petersburg Conservatory , where he made his debut as an opera singer as Scarpia in Tosca and Germont in La Traviata . This was followed by an invitation from Valery Gergiev to the Singing Academy of the Mariinsky Theater .

In Europe Serero made his debut in 2006 as Escamillo in Carmen at the Romanian State Opera Brașov . A short time later he made his American debut as Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana and Canio in I Pagliacci in Harrisburg . In 2008 he played the Dr. Malatesta in Don Pasquale with the Center Philharmonic Orchestra in Bordeaux and then returned to the Brașov State Opera, where he received the Encouragement Prize from the Bizet Foundation for his portrayal of Zurga in Les pêcheurs de perles .

Worldwide appearances in concerts, operas, operettas and musicals as well as at festivals in Europe, America, Japan and Israel followed. He has made guest appearances at the Opéra Garnier , Olympia Paris, in front of the Eiffel Tower , Carnegie Hall , Lincoln Center , Wembley Stadium , Times Square , the Concertgebouw Amsterdam , the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow and at the Budapest Opera . She sang more than 40 roles in operas, operettas and musicals. In 2012 and 2013, the Israeli President Shimon Peres performed with Felicja Blumental in Tel Aviv .

For his portrayal of the role of Valiente in the operetta Andalousia , he received the award for best singer / actor from the Dale Wasserman Foundation in Los Angeles. In 2012 he starred in the lead role of Happy Mac in Duke Ellington's only Broadway musical Beggar's Holiday in Paris. Serero also sang this role on the studio album of the musical of the same name. Serero made his solo debut with his one-man musical show on Broadway in 2013 at the Bernstein Theater , where he also appeared several times in the following years. In 2014 he played his musical show over 100 times at the Theater du Gymnase in Paris.

Serero founded the first Paris Musical Film Festival together with the Hall of Paris in 2012 and the first London Musical Film Festival at Bush Hall in 2013 .

Performances in the context of Jewish cultural programs

In 2011 Serero starred in the world's first Hebrew opera The Dybbuk at the Kfar Blum Festival in Israel and performed in the synagogue of Nazareth in Paris on the occasion of the European Day of Jewish Culture. In 2013 he played his opera solo show in the Great Synagogue in Paris. In 2012 and 2013, the Israeli President Shimon Peres performed with Felicja Blumental in Tel Aviv . In 2015 he played Shylock in The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare at the Center for Jewish History in New York and was a guest artist at the New York Jewish Music Festival .

Acting as an actor

As a stage actor, Serero played leading roles in works by William Shakespeare , including the roles of King Edward and Ratcliff in Richard III in 2015 . in New York with the Oxford Shakespeare Company and the leading role of Marcel Proust in the play Proust & Joyce at the Hotel Majestic . He appeared in various productions on French television and played roles in numerous French and American films.

Productions, recordings and albums

Serero has released numerous albums, DVDs, and videos. Including the musical You Are Not Alone in 2013 as composer, director and producer, in which he also appeared in the lead role with Jermaine Jackson . He also arranged and produced I Wish You Love, Jackson's album of jazz standards. Also in 2013 he released his debut solo album All I Care About is Love. In 2014 he recorded the anthem for the Brazilian Soccer World Cup and released the album The Broadway Baritone (Volume 1) together with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and The Crooner Baritone - The Frank Sinatra Classics .

In 2015 the album David Serero chante Luis Mariano JAZZ! . The album in French, which he arranged and produced himself, pays homage to the singer Luis Mariano . In the same year the album Sephardi in Jewish Spanish followed , which he arranged and produced himself, as well as a vocal version of the aria Habanera from Carmen as a duet with the beatboxer Mythe Boxe.

Charitable and cultural commitment

Serero has performed at charity concerts, including for UNICEF , Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, Meir Panim in New York City, the Jewish Deaf Association in London and Broadway Cares in New York City. He also performed opera programs in schools, hospitals and prisons. He has been President of Young Hadassah in France since 2011 and founded the Les Talents Interdits initiative to revive works by composers whose music was banned during the Third Reich .
