DeWitt is a small town in Clinton County . It is located in the east of the US -amerikanischen state of Iowa . In 2010 DeWitt had 5,322 residents. The city of DeWitt was named after the seventh Governor of New York State , DeWitt Clinton (1769-1828).

Geographical location
The location of DeWitt can be determined by two river courses. The Wapsipinicon River (popularly also known as the Wapsi ), a tributary of the Mississippi, runs about 6 km south of the village . Its left-hand tributary, the Silver Creek , borders directly on the city to the west. It is surrounded by the rural areas of the township of the same name in Clinton County, which, in addition to that of the city, also co-administers the sparsely populated surrounding area.

DeWitt is located in the eastern area of the Iowan Surface , a large landscape form in the northeast of the eponymous state. This divides the Southern Iowa Drift Plains , which connect south of the Wapsipinicon River, from a small north-eastern part into two sections.

In the 2010 census, the population was 5,322. These were distributed over 2,208 households in 1,415 families.
The population in 2010 was 97.1% white , 0.8% African American , 0.1% American Indian , 0.4% Asian and 0.2% other. 1.5% of the population said they came from two or more ethnic groups.
The demographic composition of the DeWitt population is as follows: 27.5% were under 20 years of age, 10.4% between 20 and 29, 18.9% between 30 and 44, 26.0% between 45 and 64 and 17, 2% 65 and older. The mean age was 39.7 years. For every 100 women there were statistically 90.1 men, and 85.8 among those over 18.
In the previous census from 2000 , 46.4% of the residents living here (2,344 of 5,050) stated that they also had German ancestors.
