The sold grandfather is a German hit film by Hans Albin from 1962.
action
Nikodemus Köberl, known as Kreithofer's grandfather, has the rogue on his neck and with his pranks brings his son and his wife to despair in the small village of Perlbach. Grandson Michael learns in Munich , the pharmacy trade and meets here by chance the young Eva, called Ev, who studied at the Fashion Institute. Both fall in love.
Meanwhile, Ev's stepfather Friedrich Wilhelm Dünkelberg also landed in Perlbach after a breakdown. Landlord Haslinger tells him that there is a healing spring on a plot of land in the village that only he knows about. Haslinger is now planning to turn Perlbach into a health resort . To do this, he must acquire the property. It turns out that it belongs to the brother of Kreithofer's grandfather, who emigrated to the United States and died there without the grandfather's knowledge. In the USA, on the other hand, nobody knows that heirs still exist in Germany, so Haslinger lets his grandfather be sold. The family plays along with it: On the one hand they can use the money because they owe Haslinger and on the other hand they know that the shrewd grandfather already knows how he will get out of the whole thing.
Grandfather now takes advantage of the family, pretends to be ill and by chance soon learns about the property and the healing spring. The Dünkelbergs hope that grandfather will make out his will on them and that they can inherit the property and the source cheaply. Only Ev has no idea of the machinations, but is saddened that her stepfather and snobbish mother reject Michael as a son-in-law because he has no property. Grandfather finally brings everything to a happy end: He gives Michael the property with the mineral spring, but bequeaths his remaining property to the Dünkelbergs. In the end he can announce the engagement of Ev and Michael, who as the owner of the property is now a welcome son-in-law for the Dünkelbergs.

criticism
The film service found that “the action […], as soon as it shows up, falls victim to the carelessly faded-in records. Pop music, slapstick and a certain kind of nonsense (Beppo Brem, Hubert von Meyerinck) dominate the supposedly rural scene. "
The lexicon of international films published by film-dienst in 1990 called the film "a remake with hits, where little emphasis was placed on plot and quality."
