The tournament was the second final round of the German indoor handball championship under the direction of the DHB .

The SV Police Hamburg , which was best prepared for the tactical variation possibilities compared to field handball , showed itself to be better than last year . mode

The master teams of the four regional associations North (SV Police Hamburg), West ( TSV Fortuna Düsseldorf ), Southwest ( TSG Haßloch ) and South (VfL Oßweil) as well as the champions of the State / Regional Association Berlin ( VfL Sportfreunde Berlin ) played in the knockout . System the German championship.

On February 3rd, TSG Haßloch and VfL Oßweil faced each other in an elimination match in Göppingen , the semi-finals and the placement games the following week took place in Münster.

As an exception, the playing time for the final round was set at 2 × 25 minutes.

Tournament course

In all games, the SV Hamburg Police demonstrated their superiority, which on the one hand was based on the fact that Hamburg had further perfected the “Swedish system” of ball control from a strong defense compared to the previous year. On the other hand, they were the only team to have completely adjusted their game to the changed conditions in the hall. The captain of the police club, Werner Vick , saw the success as being due to the fact that the team had adjusted to the extended playing time with a more rational style of play. In addition, the Hamburgers had two equally strong series of storms at their disposal, each of which was exchanged as one.
